From Sketch: The Story Behind Our Celestial Hoops

Before there was a pair to wear, there was a sketch.

A curved outline. A scattering of stars. A small point of sparkle. On paper, the idea was simple: take the familiar shape of a hoop and give it a little celestial character.

That was the beginning of our Celestial Engraved Tapered Hoops, an original LÉA design.

It started with a silhouette

When you look at a finished piece of jewellery, it’s often the smallest details that draw you in. But first comes the shape.

For these hoops, a softly tapered silhouette became the foundation. Narrower at the top and gently widening towards the base, it gives the design a distinctive profile and creates room for the celestial details to unfold.

The sketch shows both the front and side views, capturing how the shape curves around the ear. Even in pencil, you can recognise the character of the finished piece.

A scattering of stars

At the heart of the design sits a starburst with a sparkling centre stone. Smaller stars are scattered around it, bringing little moments of detail to the curved surface.

You can see this arrangement taking shape in the sketch: the longer points of the main star, the smaller surrounding sparks, and the space between them.

Translated into delicate engravings, these stars become part of the hoop itself. From a distance, you see its softly tapered curve. Up close, the little details reveal themselves.

From paper to your jewellery box

There’s a particular pleasure in seeing a drawing become something you can hold. The pencil shading becomes a polished surface; the outlined star becomes a setting that catches the light.
